Author Steve Mackey, Owner-Operator of Sparkling Blue Pools
Steve Mackey is a longtime California-turned-Texas veteran of the pool service and maintenance industry. He is a proud member of the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association (IPSSA), which emphasizes professionalism, service, community, mentoring, education, inclusion, credibility, and innovation.
Steve began his career on the ground floor of McDonnell Douglas in 1972 and achieved the title of Senior Plant Engineer Planner in 1993, amid numerous layoffs. During that time, he married and had three children, and eventually six grandsons. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in business / information systems.
He took control of his career and ensured job security by starting a pool service and maintenance company, building his customer base and doing quite well. When the family decided to relocate to Texas, he sold his business and started anew in the Lone Star State, growing his clientele again.
Steve was widowed in 2023 after forty-eight years of marriage. He found love again and enjoys writing technical manuscripts and pool-themed novels with pinches of Southern comedy, with help from his wife, Melanie Saxton-Mackey, a book editor, ghostwriter, and author. In the process, he gained a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, plus a Chiweenie and two kittens to complement his pair of Boston terriers.
